April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on July 4th July. She began piano and guitar lessons from age seven. The passion for songwriting was awakened. The first song she wrote was called Different. She wrote it when she was 12 years old. In her 14th year, April devoted much of her day creating and playing with songs. She started writing songs alongside her father in NY and LA within a short time. April also began incorporating various other topics relevant to the Take my Hand song for some close friends, like peer pressure disabilities and teen suicide. Lockhart is a popular figure and works as a lifestyle blogger at the renowned Ilia the Clean Beauty brand. Her disability is a part of her identity, but it's not the entire picture. The profile of Lockhart on Instagram does not hide her disability but doesn't focus solely on her disability. What is the message? It's this that we all share multiple identities and are far more complicated than we believe that we're. Lockhart tells Lockhart via video "I don't think that will define me. My goal is not to be an influencer on disability, because I've plenty to offer." But it does not affect my day-to-day routine. I still do all the things I normally would and have adapted to my disabilities. It's a big element of my life so it is important to talk about it. Lockhart is a great example of how to stay moving forward with self-acceptance. However, she admits to going through periods of feeling uneasy about her appearance as well as wearing clothes that showed her arms. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook in awe. The self-love she talks about is a journey. It's not clear when you'll reach the point of no return. However, that is typical for people that is prone to doubts. I think it is important to be around individuals who truly see you.
